It was another interesting night of Champions League games on Tuesday and Wednesday as the best of European teams squared up in the fifth round of group games to slug it out for the top two spots that takes them to the round of 16.APOEL Nicosia and Quarabag held European giants Dortmund and Atletico Madrid away from home, while English teams, Tottenham, Man Utd, Man City alongside PSG and Besiktas put up impressive performances to book their places in the next round with a game to spare. Here is our team of the week from the impressive nights of Champions League games this week.Goalkeeper – Ibrahim Cehic (Qarabag FK)Qarabag as a team must be commended for going unbeaten in two games against Atletico Madrid. Ironically in both games, they finished with 10 men but still held their own against Spanish giants Atletico Madrid and one man stood tall, Ibrahim Cehic. Over both legs, Cehic faced 24 shots on target, conceding from just two of them to keep his team with a shot of qualifying for the Europa league.Right Back – Kierran Trippier (Tottenham)It was a battle with Marcelo from start to finish for Kieran Trippier but he stood tall at the end of the game, constantly marauding down his position thereby carrying out both his attacking and defensive duty to perfection. His cross set up Dele Alli for the opener. He also held his ground against in-form Isco.Center Back – Alberto Botia (Olympiacos)How do you keep a clean sheet against Barcelona? Well, Botia alongside his defensive partner Engels were impressive and kept their focus for the entire duration of the game making several tackles and interceptions to stop the high flying European giants from scoring in a UCL group game for the first time since December 2012.Center Back – Badavi Guseynov (Qarabag)Qarabag relied on a solid defensive base and swift counter attack against Atletico Madrid and Guseynov was a mountain in their center back, coming out tops in battles against Antoine Griezmann, Torres and Kevin Gameiro.Left Back – Laryn KurzawaThere was a Neymar, Cavani, Draxler and Mbappe on the pitch and someone else scored a hattrick. When was the last time a defender even scored a hattrick before now? Apart from the goal, he also kept a clean sheet which makes it even more impressive. Imagine how much points that would have been in EPL fantasy. Impressive!!!Midfield – Delle AlliHe was aggressive from the blast of the whistle, making impressive runs into the channels as he usually does. He was rewarded with a good goal but asides the goal, stuck to his task as Tottenham grabbed their first win ever against Real Madrid.Midfield – Marco VerrattiThe Italian is enjoying himself right now after his failed move to Barcelona and is looking like a man on a mission. His passion, hunger and drive have made him a key element of this Unai Emery side as they look to go the distance in the Champions League this season. Took his goal with aplomb and was excellent all through.Midfield – Raheem SterlingThe former Liverpool star was mesmerizing all day completing the most take-ons (7) and also made the right decisions all game. His aggressiveness was also a key factor against a disciplined Napoli side. He took his goal well and was rightly awarded the man-of-the-match award.Attack – El ShaarawyThe Italian international showed the stuff that made him highly rated years ago. He opened the scoring at the blast of the whistle and never looked back. He also grabbed an impressive second goal with a nice chip over Courtois and was a thorn in the flesh of Chelsea defenders all through the game.Attack – Mohammed SalahHe has really been a valuable coup for Liverpool with his consistency which has seen Liverpool grind on in the absence of key players, Saido Mane and Phillipe Coutinho. He was yet again at the heart of Liverpool’s offence scoring a goal to help the Reds close to a round of sixteen spots.Attack – NeymarThe Brazilian superstar continued his impressive form for PSG with a screamer in their 5-0 rout of Anderlecht. The result sees PSG qualify for the round of sixteen scoring the highest number of goals and conceding none.Players who narrowly missed out are Omar Elabdellaoui who put up a strong defensive performance against Barcelona, Man City’s John Stones, Tottenham’s Christian Eriksen, AS Roma’s Diego Perrotti , Edin Dzeko and Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero who became Manchester City’s record goalscorer by notching his 178th goal for the club. Share Share Submit SBC News caught up with Markus Jennemyr, CEO and Co-Founder at FanLeague, to discuss the launch of a new football-based social prediction app for the UK market, the intake of players in the first few weeks, and the process of finding ambassadors to promote the product.SBC: Responsible gambling is a hot topic in the sports betting industry at the moment; can you explain the logic in the weekly deposit cap of £125 for FanLeague?MJ: FanLeague is not about betting a lot of money, it is a social skill based game to enhance your football experience. It’s a fun weekly game for users to put their opinions on the line against their mates, Sven-Goran Eriksson and our ambassadors, seeing how many results they can correctly get right out of the 13 in total. For these reasons, we have a cap in order to 1) significantly reduce the possibility of excessive gambling and self-exclusion 2) as you have a higher probability of winning the more you spend, we have evened the playing field somewhat by having a cap.SBC: You recently announced that you will donate 10% of your turnover to grass roots football; why was it important for FanLeague to support this initiative?MJ: Because it is the right thing to do. Football can be such a powerful positive influence on young kids and by supporting the next generation of young footballers we hope it will lead to something good. It feels even better when our players can influence which clubs the money will go to by selecting their favourite youth football club in our app. We have high ambitions for our charity effort in the future.SBC: Regardless of your target market, and your decision to waive TV advertising in favour of ‘influencers’, do you think that social media is now the most important source of marketing?MJ: We think that people are getting very savvy when it comes to advertising, in particular the millennial generation, and have a filter on disregarding much of the advertising they are exposed to. That goes for social media as well by the way if you are not smart about it. However, when they see their trusted ‘hero’ they follow on social media genuinely integrating a product or a service into their posts, it has a much more powerful reach and effect. It also helps that FanLeague is an ‘easy’ product to integrate if you are focused on football fans as it is a fun, social and easy way to engage an audience and compete against each other on who is the best pundit. We think it is a win-win for us and our ‘Fanbassadors’. In addition to that, we are seeing a massive migration of people from mainstream TV to social media and podcasts, quite often led by ordinary fans.We are not a traditional sportsbook so have no immediate plans to compete in the TV advertising war of spends, so our single-minded strategy to live in the digital, influencer and social media space, where we believe our target market exists, is the most important marketing channels we are adopting.SBC: How do you go about finding these ‘Fanbassadors’, and have you experienced any difficulties with the clubs through people like this unofficially representing their organisations?MJ: We are working very closely with the Ball Street network on a host of activities including our Fanbassadors campaign and have leveraged their contacts and experience in finding us 10 suitable Fanbassadors. We run an eight-week campaign to start with and are continuously evaluating their performance. At the end of the eight weeks, we will continue with some and replace others who have not performed. We are also interested in talking to up and coming influencers with a smaller following in the football space to discuss a co-operation.SBC: You mentioned that the engagement and take-up from the Fanbassador subscribers has exceeded your expectations; can you disclose any of the data around this?MJ: I think it is too early to discuss specifics but we have in total signed-up over 7,000 players in 2.5 weeks which was above our expectations at such an early stage. We notice a drastic difference towards the end of the week in the velocity of player sign-ups when our Fanbassadors start posting their integrations. The build up to the weekend English Premier League and Championship matches are vitally important for us to be in contact with our player base, thus our Fanbassadors release their weekly content in line with this. Submit StumbleUpon Share Sports Information Services (SIS) is to provide funding to the British Greyhound Breeders Forum (BGBF) for the next three years. The financial help provided by the live pictures and data supplier is to support and encourage British breeders over the course of the multi year deal.Gordon Bissett, Greyhound Operations Manager at SIS, said: “We are pleased to be supporting and encouraging British breeding for the next three years with our partnership with the BGBF. “Not every pup bred can be as good as King Elvis, who swept all before him in 2017, but by encouraging British bred competition, more dogs of that ability may be bred.“The proposal from John Marriott to SIS was to provide sufficient long-term funding to permit a series of competitions across different distances and tracks over the period to encourage British breeders. If there are British bred competitions in place for the next three years, then there is a focus and a target for the pups that are bred here in the U.K.”Through the new funding, it is detailed that the BGBF is to achieve its ambition of staging a series of Category 1 and Category 2 competitions across a variety of distances for British Bred greyhounds, supported by the tracks, the BGRF (British Greyhound Racing Fund) and now by SIS.John Marriott, Chairman of BGBF, said: “I’m thankful to SIS for providing us with long term funding to enable us to continue to encourage and support British breeders. We hope that other sponsors may also come forward to offer further support.“As a consequence of having certainty about funding we are now able to confirm, and indeed expand, our range of competitions. The money piled onto 3/1f Defi du Seuil (including one £50k bet with Star Sports) in a competitive looking JLT Novice Chase, which proved well placed as Barry Geraghty came with a well timed run up the hill. “The layers were hammered again by the green and gold colours in the Pertemps Finale, with Sire Du Berlais landing a wholesale gamble from 6/1 into 4/1f under an inspired ride from the red hot Geraghty. He traded at three figures in-running on Betfair when coming under pressure early on, and distress flares from the betting ring were now being issued.“Frodon (9/2) was a memorable winner of the Ryanair Chase with a breathtaking display of front running and jumping under Bryony Frost, with the heavily backed 7/2f Footpad proving a rare setback for Irish punters so far this week.“The bookmakers were staring into the abyss now ahead of the featured race of the day, with Paisley Park the shortest priced favourite of the afternoon and one to get stuck into as they chased their ever mounting losses both on and off-course.“Punters played up their winnings on the Emma Lavelle trained 11/8f, with only Faugheen offering any resistance in the market at 5/1. There was blood in the air as the favourite came from miles back to storm clear up the hill, and the entire bookmaking industry took an unprecedented beating.”Harris on Day 4:“Readies will be gathered up again as they prepare to do battle on Day 4, with the featured Gold Cup looking at least 4/1 the field and a very open feel to it on form….though this will not put off the punters who certainly have their tails up.”
