(Photo by Joe Robbins/Getty Images)There are times when it’s appropriate to show good sportsmanship, and times when you should stand up for what you believe in.For Big Ten commissioner Jim Delaney, Ohio State’s Big Ten Championship win and subsequent snub from the College Football Playoff should have been the latter.Following the new College Football Playoff ranking, which saw Ohio State snubbed for Notre Dame and Oklahoma, Delaney told The Athletic that he was “not frustrated” by the ranking.“Obviously would love to be in system every year but have respect for those chosen and offer sincere congratulations to players and coaches at Alabama, Clemson, ND and OU.”“[We are] proud of our teams, players and coaches in 2018. We look forward not backwards and appreciate the great conference competition/conference race. … We define ourselves, and CFP does its job with a four-team field.”While certainly intended to show good sportsmanship, the effect that the statement had on fans of the Buckeyes and Big Ten alike was poorly-received.Unreal. Fight for your league, Jim.— Eleven Warriors (@11W) December 2, 2018If he’s not pissed off about his champion not being picked two years in a row, why’s he even the commissioner???? He should be fighting for all of his teams and making a case for them! That’s his job. Fight for conference and make a case for the top teams. What a joke!— Off To Indy! ⭕️????⭕️ (@tshay77) December 2, 2018Since the inception of the College Football Playoff in 2014, only three Big Ten teams have made it into the tournament.Notably, the Big Ten champion has been snubbed in each of the last three seasons.Even though Ohio State made it in in the 2016-17 edition, it was Penn State that won the conference title that year.last_img read more
